State Championship Spring Recap 2022

MT TABOR TAKES 2ND; ROBINSON BREAKS ALL-TIME RECORD & WALKERTOWN MEDALS

In the 4A Men’s Track & Field Championships, Mt Tabor won 2nd place in the team rankings and Terrell Robinson, Jr. had a recordbreaking competition.  He broke the All-Time record in the 100M clocking in at 10:31, won the 200M with a time of 21:32, and took home two awards: the 4A Men’s Outstanding athlete award and the 4A NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award.

Mt Tabor took a 1st place finish in the 4X800M with Conner Inman, Benjamin Mills-Tarmey, Davis Potter & Andrew Burrell as well as a 3rd place finish in the 4X200M relay with Jake Koonin, Lance Patterson, Blake Simmons & Robinson.

On the field, West Forsyth junior Tyson Adams took home gold in the Long Jump with a leap of 22-11.50.

In the 2A Men’s Track & Field Championships, Walkertown athletes finished strong including third place finishes for:

Zakhi Mitchell in the the 400M Dash with a time of 50.37
Mitchell also anchored the 4x400M Relay time of 3:28 with teammates Chase Ivey, Chris McCorkle & Zion Moye bringing Walkertown more honors.

GOLD & TOP HONORS FOR WS/FCS ATHLETES IN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

At the 4A Women’s Track & Field Championship, Ija Mumford from Parkland picked up a pair of jumping event victories in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, posting performances of 19’ 05” and 38’ 08” in those events, respectively.  She also contributed to the Parkland Women taking home two second place relay finishes in the 4x100M & 4X200M. Championship runners included senior Ija Mumford and juniors Ai’yana Gray-Williams, Ziyah Etchison & Oteria Dubose.

Wake Forest’s Jillian Weidner took home two 1st place finishes in the 100M & 200M Wheelchair Dash.

Mount Tabor Women placed second in the 4×800 Meter Relay with a time of  9:17.78.  The championship runners included juniors Hannah Riley & Thalia Soule and sophomores Eliza Brand & Katie McFerrin.

In the 2A Women’s Track & Field Championships, Walkertown athletes finished strong including top finishes for:

Mariah Perry racing to 2nd place with a time of 15.07 in the 100M Hurdles.  Perry also anchored the 4X100M Relay with teammates Qeinyla Ross, Kyah Newton Roseboro & Alia Bowles bringing home bronze with a time of 50.10.

NINE WS/FCS ATHLETES PLAY IN 4A GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Nine WS/FCS golfers qualified to play in the 4A Men’s Golf State Championship.  The 2-day tournament was held in Pinehurst, NC at Pinehurst CC (No. 8) on May 9-10, 2022.

RJ Reynolds finished fifth in the team rankings with Fisher Kennedy bringing home an individual fourth place title.

4A TEAM RESULTS

 

EAST FORSYTH COMPETES IN 4A ‘SHIP; W FORSYTH & WALKERTOWN TO PLAYOFFS

East Forsyth’s Softball team took it all the way to the 4A Championship Round, winning games against West Cabarrus, Lake Norman, Mooresville, Alexander Central, and Marvin Ridge before squaring off with DH Conley in the Championships. 

East Forsyth finished up the year 27-3. The Eagles were 14-0 and champions in the Central Piedmont 4A. They won the Western Regional Championship for the second straight year.

West Forsyth and Reagan also represented WS/FCS in the 4A Softball Championship Playoffs.  West Forsyth triumphed over Ardrey Kell 17-1 in the 1st round before falling to South Meck.

Walkertown qualified for the 2A Softball State Championships competing in the first round with McMichael.

FOUR TEAMS REP WS/FCS IN BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

West Forsyth advanced through three rounds of the 4A Baseball Championship playoffs outscoring their opponents 30-3 before falling to the eventual champion Providence Panthers in the 4th Round.

Three schools represented WS/FCS in the 4A Baseball Championship Playoffs including East Forsyth, Reagan, and West Forsyth.

Reagan had an impressive tournament winning games over South Caldwell and Cuthbertson before falling to Myers Park in the 3rd round.

THREE TEAMS COMPETE IN 4A; 30+ YEAR 2A STATE SOCCER RECORD FINALLY FALLS

Three WS/FCS teams qualified for post-season play in the 4A Womens Soccer State Championship Playoffs including: East Forsyth, Reagan, & West Forsyth.

A State Championship record held by East Forsyth for over thirty years was broken this year. In 1988, East Forsyth scored an outrageous 185 goals during the season, a feat that would keep them in the NC 2A Women’s Soccer history recordbooks for over three decades.  This year, Wheatmore won the school’s first Women’s Soccer State Championship rolling to a 4-1 victory over Clinton in the 2A Women’s Soccer State Championship Game.  The Warriors capped off their record-breaking season with an additional four goals to bring their season total to 195, which is 10 goals higher than the previous state record set by the 1988 East Forsyth squad.

RJ REYNOLDS CLIMBS TO 4A 4TH ROUND, 4 OTHERS COMPETE

In 4A Women’s Lacrosse, five WS/FCS teams qualified for post-season play:  East Forsyth, Mt Tabor, Reagan, RJ Reynolds, and West Forsyth. 

RJ Reynolds, E Forsyth, and W Forsyth all started out with first round byes advancing them to the second round.  RJ Reynolds took out Ardrey Kell and and Bishop McGuinness before falling prey to Northwest Guilford in the 4th round.

Mt Tabor and Reagan met in the first round with Mt Tabor coming out victorious. The Spartans met the eventual semifinalist, Northwest Guilford in the second round where their journey would end.

The West Forsyth and Reagan Men’s Tennis teams represented WS/FCS in the 4A Dual Team competition.  West Forsyth won their first contest vs Weddington before meeting eventual champion, Marvin Ridge.
