The Mount Tabor Mile is an amazing event that brings kids from all over North Carolina to compete in different Track and Field events. This year, around 500 girls and boys participated from High Schools and Middle Schools all around North Carolina.
From the girls’ side, three of the nation’s top 10 girls (Kaitlyn Estep, Louisa Betz, and Hannah Rae Shaffer) from Cardinal Gibbons High School won the High School Girls Mile with a time of 4:49.31.
For Mount Tabor girls, sophomore Rachel Riley had a mile time of 4:59.32, finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Addy Jarrett finished with a mile time of 5:18.13, qualifying herself for regionals.
From the boys’ side, Michael Ferguson from North Buncombe High School won the High School Boys Mile with a time of 4:15.83.
For Mount Tabor boys, senior Andrew Riley finished with a mile time of 4:19.32, finishing 12th. Junior Whit Longhurst finished with a 4:21.16 mile, finishing 16th. Lastly, Junior Luke Mistor finished with a 4:25.50 mile, finishing 32nd for the Spartans.
Throwing Thunder was another great part of this night, allowing kids from all over North Carolina to showcase their shot-put talents.
From Mount Tabor, Shamiyah Bailey, Justin Johnson, and Demarcus Mashack all finished top 3 in the shot-put. All 3 of these Spartans were able to improve their regional qualifying marks, preparing them even more for Regionals.
Mount Tabors Head Track and Field Coach, Chris Page says, “It was great weather and an even greater event under the lights at Mount Tabor.”
